Alstom Power Selects Kronos to Manage Time and Attendance for Global Workforce

September 2009 – Global leader in power generation, Alstom Power, has selected Kronos to implement a workforce management solution including time and attendance for its employees at selected locations around the world. Implementation will start in the UK, where more than 2,500 employees will use Kronos to record their working hours at sites belonging to the Thermal Services business.  In addition, some employees will also use the Kronos shop floor data collection solution to register their hours worked across a range of activities on specific jobs.

News Facts

  • Kronos will replace a number of systems currently being used by Alstom Power to collect attendance data, including paper-based records, excel spreadsheets and bespoke applications.   With Kronos in place, time and attendance information will be held in one system and Alstom will be able to analyse the data collected and use it to plan the best use of its workforce.
  • Alstom employees at the selected sites will record their attendance using Kronos enabling analysis to be carried out for strategic planning.
  • In addition, some employees will also log hours worked on specific jobs using the Kronos shop floor data collection system. This will allow both direct and indirect time to be tracked and reconciled against planned activities and give greater insight into manufacturing costs and timings.
  • Kronos will integrate with Alstom’s SAP ERP system and its Ingenuity at Work payroll system, thus eliminating the need for re-keying payroll information and removing payroll errors.
  • Kronos is working with Alstom to configure relevant pay rules and terms and conditions of employment currently in place across the selected Alstom UK sites.
  • The first sites plan to go live in the autumn and include Stafford, Rugby, Ashby, and Newcastle.

Supporting Quotes

  • Tony Phillips, Business Systems Manager at Alstom Power
"We reviewed a number of time and attendance systems on the market and selected Kronos because of its global capabilities.  Initially, we will implement Kronos in the UK and then roll it out around the world.  We needed to ensure that the company we chose had the capabilities to support us worldwide in multiple languages.  Kronos really had the edge on this."
